TCC Prereqs/core classes

I haven't been to school since graduating HS in '83. Now I'm interested in going into Nursing, now that my youngest will be starting school in the fall. I was wondering if there is any particular order to take the prereqs, strategically speaking. I need to take the Accuplacer next week. I dread even that because my math knowledge is poo poo. My 15 yo son will have to tutor me! LOL

How hard is it going back to school after so many years? How many classes can I realistically handle in one semester? Shaking in my boots already.

Any suggestions for a newb?

Thanks y'all.

Yes, there are either 3 or 4 exams lecture exams and 3 lab exams that you have to take in the testing center on designated days.

[bANANA]I never used my pig the whole semester!!! [/bANANA]

Thanks Mom2. That makes sense. I'm taking so many other online classes, I think the testing center ladies are my new best friends :D

Can you imagine the poor garbage man when you threw it away?

ewww! lol

I definitely made sure that we double or maybe even triple bagged it. I didn't want to give someone an unfortunate experience they weren't expecting. It was bad enough before I had to disect it.

I signed up for Art Appreciation w/ Favor, starting at 11:20. I wanted to take the World Religions course but it was all filled up. Maybe I'll be able to switch once class starts and people start dropping out. My sister says that happens quite often. Can anybody tell me about the Art Apprec. class or the instructor? I used ratemyprofessors.com to help me a choose.

Sorry, I took music appreciation. Good luck getting in the religion class though, it sounds interesting!

At least you are being proactive and used that site. Sorry I cannot help - I took drama app at another school.

Is there a thread on this site where folks can list the books that they have for sale or trade? If not, that would be a great idea.

I don't think that there is, but that sure would be a good idea! Maybe on the student forum?

I needed my Micro book and lab book for summer school. In the bookstore the book was selling for $108 used (or something real close to that), but luckily I got it off Ebay for $56 including shipping! The lab book is written by the professor though so I'll have to get that one for full price. You might check there though.

I have my Micro book and lab manual as well as my Chem book from last semester. Not sure if they're using the same ones but if you're interested you can pm me and we can compare ISBN numbers.

Mary,

I know things might be quite scary right now. The accuplacer can be quite daunting, but just work at things you know and try to work on things you don't know. The Math thing should be no big deal because I too had a hard time at math and struggled to get a C in College Algebra, and I know Math is a tough subject for a lot of people to crack.

I took two years off to attend another school and after looking at the job prospects in that career field after I graduated that school I decided to go back to college. Things are daunting after having been gone two years, but if you take a lite load for the first two semesters (I would say 6-7 credit hours spread out over 4 days a week) you should do fine. Then after you have done some of the more basic classes (Intro to Psych and English) you can probably go for the more advanced classes (Biology, Chemistry, College Level Math).

Twenty-three Years after graduating High School you are going back? Is what some friends might ask you, but you are doing it for a noble cause and I feel you are doing it for the right reasons.

Keep it up and don't let things get you down.

Do you by chance have the lab book by Matthai? Any pages missing? If you do PM me and I'm definitely interested!
