I am graduating LVN course in California in 3 months. I am moving back to North Carolina when I graduate and have to take the NCLEX there. Can I take the NCLEX in North Carolina and get a California license? I want the California license b/c of the ariciprocity. Any help is appreciated.....Thanks!

I would check with the Boards of Nurse Examiners for both California and North Carolina. They should have a website that has contact numbers (that's how it is in Texas, anyway). I would start there. Good luck!

YOu should be able to take the exam in any state, but as far as I know, to get a license and be able to practice under a certain state's license, you must live/practice there... If you plan on practicing there, yes, you could get the CA licence, but otherwise, you're going to have to get the NC license, to be able to practice in NC. Good Luck!

Definitely not true. If you meet the educational requirements of the state, as well as pass the NCLEX-RN exam, then you can have a license in each state that you wish. You just need to submit an application for "License by Endorsement" -- that is all, and of course, pay the fees.
Travel nurses hold licenses in many states, and may actually have them in states that they have never even set foot in, just have it in case. I have done the same thing in the past, as well.
Hope that this clears up any misconceptions, and it is true for RNs as well.
Where are you planning on working? North Carolina or CA? Where ever you plan to start your career, go for the license there, then just endorse to the other when you need to. You can take the NCLEX-PN exam in any location, any state, or even country that offers it. You just toake it for the state that you are applying for licensure in.
Thanks!! I plan on moving to Raleigh, I have family there. I don't know how this whole process works; I thought I could get a Calfornia license and just work anywhere I wanted without applying for seperate state licenses b/c of the ariciprocity.
NCLEX exam has reciprocity, a nursing license does not. It requires endorsement.

Sorry if what I said came across wrong... what I meant to say was that you can not get a california license and then practice in north carolina without the north carolina license too...
Oh, I understand. It was explained different to me here. Thank you so much.

I took my nclex-pn in Virginia. I plan to move to Florida. Does that mean I have to take the NCLEX there? Sorry, Im a bit confused.
The NCLEX is a national test, so you can take it anywhere, but where you practice, you must have that state's license, along with any other state's licene's you wish to have....
Once you write the NCLEX exam, you never have to write it again. The NCLEX exam score has reciprocity in all fifty of the states, you will just need to apply for endorsement to the second state, which for ytou would be Florida. You just need to follow what it says to do on their website for "License by Endorsement."
