to take LPN or RN

I was recently laid off & decided to go back to school for nursing. I am now in a dilemma whether to take LPN or RN.

I need to be able to fit studying with working. Not working is not an option for me. That makes Apollo out.

I need anyone's opinion on the following:

1. I am looking at CSN for either LPN or RN. National University for ASN. Kaplan for LPN. Should I start with the LPN program first, then work so that I can have money to pay for the RN bridge OR just go straight for the RN program?

2. I heard that Kaplan is only a 12month LPN program compared to the CSN's 2yr. Is it worth it to just wait for Kaplan which starts end of 2009?

Any opinions anyone can provide is much appreciated.

i don't know anything about any of the LPN programs around here, i graduated from LPN in another state many years ago. i think you have to look for what does the program require for prereq's and do you need to take a test for admittance to the program. what GPA do they require? i wish i knew more about the LPN programs but i don't.

the only RN program i know about it CSN (CCSN when i graduated) , they require a admit test NLN or TEAS and you have to have so many points. i went through the LPN to RN bridge program , and only was admitted on GPA only . i know the admiision process is different for students who are not nurses first. i am sure alot of people can tell you about their RN program and what is needed.

you may want to contact all the nurse programs you are interested in and look at what they require and then decide. good luck on your future schooling. keep us posted !!

If you can find a way to pay for it, just go to the RN program and get it over with now. Things happen in life, and you may not be able to do this in the future or you may find more stumbling blocks in your way.
