Hello,
I recently passed my NCLEX and have been applying everywhere. Of course, no one is calling back. I live in NY and from what I understand getting a job as a new grad is a pain. I was offered a position in a nursing home, decent pay-ok hours. My question is should I take it? Will it give me the experience everyone wants? Or should I keep looking? I want to work in the E.R. but no one wants a new grad in there. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,

You can't wait for a call back.....you must be very pro-active and call them. Show interest, let them know you're a quick learner, etc. I called HR at least once a week for about 5 weeks before I ever got an interview. Be assertive, companies like that in potential employees.

Taking that first job is scary at best. Best of luck to you! I went to ICU as a new grad even though I was strongly discouraged by nursing school faculty - been there for 10yrs now. I wouldn't even stop at HR (my HR dept is less than helpful), but contact the managers of departments you are interested in, request a meeting, and ask what you've got to do to get a job there. ER is tough on a new grad, but many ERs have "holding" units where they might be willing to take a chance on a motivated new grad. Go get 'em!

Did the nursing home tell you how long you have to decide on whether or not to take the job?
Do you need to give an immediate answer, or what?
Are you open to re-locating?
There is a Web site called "Indeed dot com". Type in "New Grad Nurse" and "USA". It lists all of the ads from all of the other sites.
