Summer 2012 Nurse Externship Program

Hey Guys!

I am a junior getting my BSN right now. I am really interested in doing a summer nurse externship in 2012. I am currently a PCA/tech so I am looking more for a program where we work with an RN preceptor. I'd like it to be paid, and preferably provides housing options for students.

Any experience doing an externship program? Any suggestions?

PS I live in Ohio and I'm interested in maybe going to the Portland area for the summer!

Thanks so much!!

I've never heard of anything like this. Maybe there's positions like that in your area but the only externships here are through your NS and you pay for it through your tuition. Paid housing? Our hospitals have just recently lifted their hiring freezes this past year so I'm afraid the budgets don't allow for basically paid volunteers.

The only one that I am aware of in the Portland area is with the VA, very hard to get into, had firends that did it while in nursing school, however there was no housing option and the pay was that of a CNA.

Honeslty the job market is so tight right now there are new grads working as CNAs and vollenteers and as the previous poster said they have just begun to thaw from the hirring freezes.....
