suggestions on classes

Nursing Students SRNA

Hi, I need some suggestions on courses I can take to improve my chance for CRNA school in the future. First of all, I have a degree in biology. But my gpa is not very good at all (below 3.0). So the core sciences like anatomy, physio, gen.chem, o.chem, physics, etc were all taken but at C (some even below) grade level. So I have been going back to school to take classes to get at a 3.0 so I can apply for a BSN program. I have been trying to collect all the pre-req's needed for CRNA. So far from what I have seen and I have retaken in the sciences at a community college that will be needed for CRNA program is: microbiology, college algebra, statistics, AP1&2. I have received all A's in those courses. Extra course I took at undergrad level at a university was a pharmacology class, and a community college pathophysiology course which both of these courses I have received an A. Now I am confused on my chemistry to take. My options (again all will be retaken at community college) are: Intro to Chemistry, Gen.Chem 1, Gen.Chem 2, Organic 1, Organic 2, Survey of Intro to Organic/Biochemistry, and Biochemistry (biology version, not chemistry version). So my questions are:

1.)can you guys please help me suggest (from the above list) which chemistry classes would you suggest that I retake that will be helpful for CRNA? The BSN program already told me they need survey of intro chem class.

2.)Also, any other suggestions of other classes to take that will improve any chance of CRNA admission in the future? Should I retake physics and get an A? Or is physics not needed/not really help for the application?

3.)Will CRNA admissions frown upon that I retook my classes at a community college instead of at a university?

4.)Since my accelerated bsn program is only 60 credits, if I get A's in all the classes, will CRNA schools look at that differently or combine it with my 3.0 gpa? (so it will only bump it up to a 3.1?) Sorry for all the questions, just needed some opinions!

I don't think it is necessary to retake all of those classes. What you should do is get A's in your BSN program and then take some grad courses and get A's in them as we'll and show them you can handle that level of schooling. Most programs won't deny you for past poor academic performance when you were younger IF you can show/prove to them that you have matured and are now taking your education much more serious.

Take whatever classes you need to get into biochem. Otherwise grad patho and or pharm is well thought of. Only a's if u can. Taking classes at community college is fine. All grades you take will be figured into your gpa , although different programs rank your gpa differently.

Good luck
