I am in my last semester of nursing school and am doubtful l will be able to find a job in a hospital come graduation. I was planning on including subacute areas in my job search. I basically know that subacute is a stepdown from the hospital (longer stay) but what would I really expect in there? Is it the same as the hospital with less sickly patients or is it a nursing home type floor? Any input would be greatly appreciated ty.

The subacute units often have ventilator patients and other very serious cases who still require a lot of care. Try this website to get a little info.

Vencor is one that owns many of these facilities- there may be some in your area- check out their websites to see what they offer. I think it could be a great way to build your skills and confidence after graduation, just make sure you have enough RN support as a new grad. Even in the hospital they made me charge nurse as soon as I was full-time, a position that was more than I needed in my first year after nursing school.
