Study-Work program in New Zealand

Absolute waste of money. NZ has virtually shut the door on nurses with no experience and no matter how much assistant in nursing or any other work just will not give you the 2 years experience required for consideration of cap course and after study for whatever you will not be allowed to stay as it will not be on the skills list. It is a money making scheme for people who call themselves 'consultants' over there.

Canada has many different routes for PR plus the process to apply as a RN in any of the provinces costs lots of $$ and time consuming. There are many threads discussing this suggest a good read. Also suggest reading the CIC website

Try out for dubai, gr8 opportunities, simple process one of my friend got a job, seems like everything is covered, but need to write DHA exam , getting prepared for that.

I have said these many times as a reminder to my fellow Filipino RNs.

1. Please do a lot of research about the immigration and employment situations of the country where you want to move in to. Companies or agents advertising their visa or consultancy services will tell you things to attract you to sign up with them. But being well-informed will help you differentiate between what's legit and what's not. And it will also decide whether you need those services at all.

2. Whilst there may be programs that let you study and work at the same time, the work side is usually limited. Not even enough to pay for your tuition and daily needs. Also, finishing such programs doesn't necessarily qualifies an applicant to eventual permanent residency or temporary work visas because each visa types has different eligibility criteria. At the same time, most programs will not lead to RN registration.

3. If there's anything you really have to invest on, that is work experience. It is what will make you stand out to prospective employers.

4. This may serve as an eye opener, but most developed countries that we aspire to live in before are now sufficient of nurses, if not oversupplied. Here in Australia, or at least where I live, new grads are having a hard time getting into the public hospital system. Not because of lack of experience, but because they face tough competitions due to a large number of applicants in only few slots. I also heard a lot of overseas nurses going back to their home country because hospitals and aged care facilities just stopped hiring overseas nurses because of sufficient supply of local nurses. Of course, having a work experience helps, so see my #3 point above.

June 1 2014 new rules came into being and work during term time is limited although can work full time during schedule breaks like summer and winter

As of June 1, 2014, you may qualify to work off campus without a work permit. If you qualify, your study permit will allow you to work up to 20 hours per week:

• during regular academic sessions and
  
• full-time during scheduled breaks, such as the winter and summer holidays or spring break.
