Study Groups?!

Hi, in A&P 1 some of us our thinking of getting a study group going. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what exactly you do in a study group, how you covered the material in group, pro's v. con's, etc. Thanks

Hi .... I have never done a study group ( I am a solo studier..) but I do do group and private A+P tutoring now.

When I am running a group we start at the beginning and it's open discussion step by step until we get to an area where people are confused...sometimes the other students chip in and help and then I guide them overall to the right answers but I allow them to do it themselves for the most part. Occasionally a single student will get hung up on something and I will take them aside while the others move on. It's more me monitoring them and guiding them. I listen as they talk in a group and when I hear them heading down the wrong track I guide them back with the correct information.

I know plenty of people who do group study, though, and they kind of do it the same way. They start at the beginning and discuss the material...talking about it openly until there is a hold up...then they help one another.

I had anatomy and physiology separate. I found when I studied physiology alone, I succeeded much more. But, Study groups really helped me with anatomy. We had to identify all the body parts, muscle tendons, nerves, etc. in pictures, models, and cadavers. So we would all get in a group, do it together once, and then each person in the group would do it on his/her own while we watched. If they missed something or forgot a name we helped them out and vice versa. It was repetitive, but we all had it down when it came to taking our practical. Some schools just have exams. We had practicals and exams. So, this really helped for the practicals!
