Consolidate the loans that you have defaulted on. You'll be required to sign up for an income-based repayment plan, unless you make 3 consecutive, voluntary, and on time payments.
Loan rehabilitation, where 15% of your discretionary income will be set as the payment amount.
Student loans are the one type of loan that doesn't go away, no matter what. The best way to avoid the situation is to not take out more than you can afford to repay, attend less expensive schools, and make the payments on time. Should you decide to further your education, remember the lesson you've learned by allowing the loans to become default requiring wage garnishment. Share this experience with others so that they can learn from it as well.
