Hello everyone, I'm happy to have found this forum :nuke:
I just finished applying to SFSU/Canada Program that starts in Fall '08 and Samuel Merritt ABSN to start in november. I'm extremely nervous and am constantly checking online and my mailbox.
My academic background is somewhat weak. I graduated from UC Berkeley and majored in Integrative Biology. However, I have a GPA of 2.83 due to a year of physics, organic chem, and bio. I have a decent GPA in prerequisites for both schools and I have volunteered at Stanford Hospital for 1 year and currently am working there. I submitted recommendations from two teachers and my boss, who is an RN. I am very committed to becoming a nurse, and later a NP. I'm just extremely worried that I killed my chances in Berkeley. I took some prereqs (3) at a community college last summer and fall and received all A's. I just couldn't pull similar grades at berkeley.
My Question is: Do schools take into consideration the difficulty of the schools when looking at GPAs?

no, sorry. the only exception might be if you did exceptionally well in a more "difficult" school

At the info meeting for the BSN program I've applied to, they def. said that they take into account whether an applicant took their prerequ's at a university or community college. Best of luck to you!!!
thank you! I'm still really nervous, but that made me feel a little better :) I just hating waiting to see if i get in :)

Don't stress out!!! I went to Cal too (although it was a long time ago), and my GPA was worse than yours. I was a computer science major. I went to local cc's to finish up my prereq's and did really well in those classes.
I got in to Samuel Merritt ABSN program that starts in June. They only calculate the last 60 units for the GPA, so that will help you out. The counselor told me that they recognize that the 1st time in college many of the GPA's are lower. They want to know what you can do now so that's why the focus on the last 60 units.
So . . . nothing to be stressed about. Good luck!
