Hello, I am planning to move to St Louis and looking to attend stlcc's nursing program. I am currently an EMT in Illinois and would like to pursue an advanced career. I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to how long the wait list is? Which campus is better to attend? Is it feasable to have a full time job while attending class? Also, what is a typical week schedule like for the classes? Such as mon-fri part days/full days, every other day, etc. Thank you in advance.

I'm on the waiting list for Forest Park. They will tell you that the waiting period is a couple of years, but I think some people can get in sooner. Just from reading past posts on here, FV is the least favorite of the three, but people seem to really like FP and Meramec.

I am on the wait list for Meramec. I have many friends that attended STLCCs nursing program and from what I have heard is that meramec has the best pass rates! I think you can work but you would want something flexible as the hours are odd (some early mornings some after noons) the wait is usually 2 years.

I think the wait list is around 3 years now:( I've been on the list for a year and am still in the 200's.

Graduated in dec 2010 from meramec. Wait was 2 years for me. Most people went to forest park or meramec. Flo valley doesnt have a really good reputation. They fail alot of people and they end up transferring to meramec or forest park. You go to school about 4 days a week and 1 off day. Some people did work full time and it was hard for them. It is not recommended. I did part time and that was hard for me.
My class all passed nclex as well.

1. Forest Park and Meramec are the best. Some friends went to Flo Valley and they all failed. Flo Valley does not care for you. Their mission is to weed out everyone they can.
2. As a result, the Flo Valley wait list was 1 year (because of their horrible reputation) and 1.5 years for Forest Park and Meramec.
3. I worked full - time 1st and 2nd semester. But I was a supervisor and created my own schedule of odd hours (like 3pm- 9pm on a Sunday). 3rd semester, I went part - time (and almost got a C). 4th semester, I did not work.
4. A typical week is 40+ hours of study/lecture/lab/clinical/simulation. Quit your job. Or be prepared to repeat a semester/fail.

Did you find a job when you graduated?

Hi B-emt, I just graduated from FloValley this May. I applied early in the summer and waited a year on the list. I worked part time throughout the program and passed. Most people had to quit their job half way through, a few friends had to move back in with their parents or had their spouses support them financially. Full time work is impossible.
My schedule for 2nd semester was:
Monday: 6-1130 work 12-3 class
Tuesday: 6-1 work
Wednesday: 8-10 practicum 11 checkout 1-3 class 3-? clinical prep
Thursday: 7-4 clinical
Friday 6-230 work
Checkout is when your tested on your basic nursing skills like bedbaths, IVs, NG tubes. Practicum is the class where you learn those skills. Besides studying for the test you must go to the practicum room to practice your skills. Practicum and skill checkouts are only 1st and 2nd semester.
My schedule for 4st semester was:
Monday:9-12 class
Tuesday:6-230 work 3-? clinical prep
Wednesday:2-9 clinical
Thursday:930-1230 work 1-3 class 4-9 clinical
Friday: 7-12 work 12-3 class on select Fridays
Now clinical prep is all semesters and will require you to go the hospital/facility you are doing clinicals at and look up info about your patient(s) then go home and do lots of research about their diagnosis, medications, and make a care plan for them about their individual needs. This is something some people will do till 6pm, 8pm, 4am, depends on the person...
Like I said I went to Flovalley I've heard good things about all 3 locations. It's true that lots of people will have to re-take a semester (at any campus), the instructors expect it, they basically tell you at the beginning that this program is just that difficult. I preferred going to Flo because of it's hard reputation I wanted to be confident that when I took the NCLEX that I would pass. I also got an "in" for a job thanks to a instructor.
