No, you do not. CVS is only required for initial licensure. However, you will not be able to endorse your license until you have a SSN#, which means a job offer, etc.

If you already have a license, you will be applying for a license by endorsement. Just take a look at the aplication.

Thanks suzanne for the information. I heard that they give us the hard license once we submit the Tax number,,is that true?

Yes, but you do not get the tax number until after you have a job offer and your documents are close to being finalized.

Getting an ITIN for valid Non-Workable visa holders was easy till Jan 2004. Then IRS made it really cumbersome. If you already have an ITIN, you can try with that.

Thanks for your reply. I am here on H4 Visa, I came on March 2005, therefore, dont have the ITIN,,is this true that I will get one when my husband files for the Tax for this fiscal year(It will probably be in October). Do you think that I will get one?please advise. :p

On an H4 visa, you will still not get the number in normal circumstances.

You do not have a job that you are paying taxes on. You do not need one, same as that your children do not need one.

I wish I had a good answer. But I dont know whether you will get it for sure.

But you can try. Your husband can file taxes only by the end of January 2006. (He will get W-2 from his employer only by the end of January 2006). Once he gets that, he has to fill a form (I assume W-7) and send it along with his tax return to a new address (Not the typical IRS address). You can get more information from the IRS website.

In my case, I had not done that because by the time my spouse filed 2005 return, I had a SSN (that I got after getting EAD. In TX, they will issue Hard copy RN license without SSN) and we used SSN with the option 'Married Filing Jointly'. If your husband was working here for long time, he would know how to deal with these complexities..

Hope this helps..

Thanks a lot Suzanne and NYrnTX. :balloons: . I took the CGFNS exam on 13th July, waiting for the result, I hope they will post that soon. I am taking the IELTS in September. Will it be easier to get an SSN once I have a CGFNS cerificate and visa screen certificate? Eventhough, I have applied to CABON for first licensure, I plan to work in NY. Will I find an employer who will petition my GC and I will be assigned an SSN then I will endorse my CA license to NY. Do you have any idea ?..it is really confusing me. :)

You will not get a SSN# until you have a job offer and are along in the process of getting your green card. There is no reason for you to have one before. You should have no problem finding an employer, and in the process once you have immigration process under way and you receive your SSN#, then you submit that to CA and they will give you a license number. At that time, you will be able to apply to NY for endorsement. :)
