State Hospitals

Hello There everyone.

I am pondering a job at a State Hospital. The job offers related training and free NA training course.

However, at this time all that I have ever heard about State Hospital is just that, hearsay. Never been in one. The closest ive been in was a Community type hospital inpatient psych unit which was very, very calm relativley speaking.

This type of job is something I have been interested in for the longest of time. But, I do not want to be too shocked at the dutys or the atmosphere when I first start working.

Anyone with any knowledge of the dutys of CNA's on Psych floors and also any descripition of the units themselves including common patients diagnoses, occuring violence.etc.

You can either respond here or go to the other thread I started in the Psych forum. https://allnurses.com/t50512.html Due to little response there, I decided to post here.

My husband worked for Broughton Hosp. (a state psychiatric facility) for 30 years and retired full benefits, full pay, insurance, etc. .

There are many different units to choose from, from young people to the criminally insane. You always can go talk to people there and get the inside scoop.

I wish I had done it! I work at a rural hospital (for 21 years), and even though I love my job, I'm 48 and ready to GET SOME REST!
