State Exam Poll

After taking my state exam and hearing of some others, my friend and I currently have a theory despite what our instructor told us would not happen, the skills test breaks down into handwashing, one measurement, one long skill ie occupied bed making, perineal care, and two short skills ie ROM or Assisting to a chair. And we're wondering if its true.

My skills were: handwashing, BP, fingernail care, assist to ambulate, and ROM.

What were your skills and do you feel the same?

Also I think the test site itself can make a world of difference. What do you think?

(The reason I'm asking is our instructor was tough, the curtains were a nightmare, and the table a bit of a walk from the bed but the test site was small, the curtains just had to be pulled once, the tester was not threatening at all, and the room was small and set up just like an ltc :))

I agree, they have some kind of system for how they decide what skills you do. In my state hand washing and "indirect skills" are the ones you know you will get. Other than that I had.

ROM upper

Brushing teeth

Pulse & Resp.

Let's see, if I remember correctly my skills were handwashing, assisting resident to sit on the side of the bed, assisting resident to wheelchair and transporting, pulse and respirations, and making an unoccupied bed.

Hello,

I had the following skills:

Handwashing

Passive ROM for shoulder

Ambulate w/transfer belt

Measure urine output

Modified bed bath

I had a wonderful evaluator, albeit, I still lost the ability to breathe. It wasn't a big deal at all.

Best,

Mike

Thanks everyone. That appears to be the system. Pulse and resp together? Yikes, we get one or the other.

My five were, handwashing, respiratory, right sided weakness, turning to the side and dentures. Of course i failed cause i did the right sided weakness backward, i was pretty much thinking my side instead of hers. So i have to retest. I am not sure when i will retest.

I also had the obvious: handwashing and indirect skills.

I also had:

ROM lower right extremity

Dressing-left sided weakness

Empty and measure urine output

I also had the nauseated, grumbling stomach and the sweats as I waited to be called in to take my exam. Once the proctor told me what my skills were I breathed a big sigh of relief and felt better. Although not totally relaxed until he said I passed and could go take the written portion of the test. Yeah!!

i had :

handwashing

ROM to the knee

pulse and resp

move to the head of bed

turn resident towards you

adorablepuppy,

The lady who gave us our tests said shes had a bunch of people fail the skills part. Thats fairly common from others I know who've taken it and counted in their groups who passed and who failed. Don't stress it :) The good news is you won't have to do the weak side again and will get new skills :)
