State Boards

Hi, now that we are in clinicals as the last part of our training, we will only get one day after graduation to practice mock state boards. There are 8 of us and our facility doesn't have enough supplies for everyone to practice everything so we have to share, etc.

At clinicals, we aren't allowed to do anything the state board way.

My question is, does anyone have a suggestion on how I can practice my state board skills on my own time? I know that maybe it seems obvious that I could do it at home, but I don't have those kinds of supplies here. And the school facility will not allow us to come there aside from the mock boards day after graduation. I'm a little stressed out over it and so are my classmates.

    You don't need a bed that lifts, a privacy curtain, or even a gait belt to practice at home.

    You can still do the hand motions to pull the "invisible" privacy curtain.

    You can use any belt or even a scarf to simulate a gait belt.

    You can use "invisible" gloves.

    ....etc...

    As far as a blood pressure cuff etc, there are some fairly inexpensive ones at the stores. I bought one for $25. to practice with.

    Just use your imagination and be creative when you practice at home. Of course you can't do peri care on a friend...but go through all the steps and say each step out loud as you do it. Speaking out loud as you do them is the key to helping them sink in. ~That includes handwashing!! Even though during your state tests, you will probably be told to wash 1x then just SAY when you would wash....when you practice, wash everytime to get the hang of it. It is a very important step and I've seen a lot of people fail because they forgot to wash just one time...
