I t depends on where you go to school.
At my community collage you can sign up for the waiting list at any time. You take a drug test and the HESI exam.
I am going to take my pre-reqs while I am on the list and waiting.
Thanks well how long do pre reqs take? A semester? i may also only have time for pre reqs then i may be moving west an may be applying there im in nyc now.

It depends where your at in your education, how many classes your going to take a semester, what degree your looking at ect. It took me 5 years to get to where I am at. I did not always go full time and had to take a few semesters off in between. Where I live there are pre reqs. and co reqs but I decided to get all of the classes done before I applied so that I could just focus on the nursing program. My school also has a waiting list that is 3 to 4 semesters long but luckily I applied to a program through a local hospital that you have to interview for and got into that right away. It is through my school but the hospital pays for it so I got placed ahead of people that have been on the list for almost 2 years. So what I am trying to say is it all depends on how determined you are to get it done and hopefully your school doesn't have a wait list. My community college has 2365 on their list. Good Luck----Kelli

You need to speak with an academic adviser at the nursing college you wish to attend. They can tell you exactly which classes you need to take. If you do not know of the school you will be applying to, talk to an adviser at a college near by, most of the prerequisite classes are similar from program to program. The amount of time it takes to complete prerequisites for a BSN is roughly 2 years, I am not sure how long for a RN or LPN, so you should consider which license/degree you will be pursuing.
Well that killed my hopes and dreams of leaving in a year
Are thinking of moving to Arizona? I am from Arizona and there is a waiting list. i posted before that the wait list at Maricopa community colleges is at 2365 right now. The pre reqs for my school are Bio 156, CHM 130 w/lab, Mat 120, Psy 101, and BIO 201 after taking these and the NET test you could get on the wait list. While on the wait you can take the co reqs which are Bio 202, Bio 205, Eng 101, Eng 102, Reading, and Humanities. So the pre reqs for my school you would have to take in at least 2 semesters. Every school is different though. Hope this gave you some kind of idea. Good Luck!---Kelli

I am taking prereqs this semester and am applying for fall entry in the nursing program (ADN). with my NLN score and GPA I will get in no problems.. no waiting. You can get in a program in less than a year if you keep a 3.5+ GPA and score 90+ percentile on the entrance exam. ( I got 99% and 4.0). at my school you get points for the GPA points for the NLN score and a few points for being in-state and completing 12 credits of prereqs.
Keithjones, your school is an exception because no matter what your GPA or NET score is you have to be on the wait list in my county community college system. I have a 3.8 GPA and would have been on the wait list for 3-4 semesters but I was fortunate enough to get accepted into the Hospital program ran through my school and jumped ahead of all those on the wait list. That was because I have a good GPA but I also had to have an interview at the hospital. Otherwise I would be patiently waiting a very long time. That is great that your school is rewarding good students in that way. My school doesn't care LOL. ----Kelli
So what should i do? I am leaving in about a year to AZ but i want to do something usefull here that will help me there.
You need to write down the names of the classes that I posted earlier and take them to your local college that you want to attend but only if your moving to the Phoenix or surrounding area. If your moving to another area like flagstaff or Tuson then you will have to find out what pre reqs that school wants you to have for the nursing program. The classes that you take can transfer over to Arizona but they have to be equivalent to the classes at the school your going to transfer to. Sometimes the classes have the same name like ENG 101 but other times they have different names but are the same class. You won't hurt yourself if you take Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, and math. Hope this helps----Kelli
