Starting Nursing School

Specializes in Getting my LVN first, the onto my RN!!!!.

Hello everyone! I start nursing school in an hour and I am so excited. Honestly, I have not been able to sleep for the last week. Last night I kept waking up and thinking that I was going to be late! lol.

I have put this off for way too long! I am 21, however, I graduated highschool when I was 17 and got married when I was 19 and I have been wasting my time taking miscellaneous college classes since then! My husband is so supportive and has told me that he will be happy to take over the brunt of the housework so I can go to school and excel.

My mom is also and LPN, and she graduated second in her class by .25 points so, we are having a contest to see who can graduate with a higher gpa. She is my inspiration. I have met alot of nurses while working and volunteering at various healthcare organizations and I have yet to find a nurse that has more compassion and better rapport with their patients. I'm getting all sappy now so I will go finish getting ready for school.

To all of those prospective LPN/LVN students: you can do it! Make your mind up and just go for it, it is a lot of hard work; but nothing will feel better than the feeling you get the morning before your first class! I already feel as if I have acheived something!

Take care everyone!

Thanks for sharing and I remember feeling the way you do. I still get excited about going to class even and I'm about to be done in about 6 weeks !

My mom was also a LPN for 4 years before becoming a RN, and I too look at her as an inspiration. Like you I finished highschool at 16 and I started NS at 19 and will be a lpn at 20 and on top of all that I'll be getting married this august. So you are still young and have plenty of time to completed NS. Good luck and its so great that you have such a supportive hubby.

Thanks for sharing your story. I remember my first day clearly - I was in "serious" mode and was convinced nothing would get in my way. Now, nearly 12 months later, I am on the verge of graduation, and I can tell you the feeling is amplified by 10! Good luck to you in your studies and remember to stay humble, loyal and focused!

andeam - so, how's it so far?

tell all....

The first two weeks seemed to fly by. So far its going good. I have met some nice classmates, however, the girl I sit next to has tried to steal my calculator twice now and tried stealing a set of flashcards I spent 2 hours making, but hopefully my plan has solved that little problem. One person has already quit, and there are a few others I don't foresee staying around too much longer. At our school, they don't really give that many homework assignments, but we have reading and frequent quizzes. However, I like the quizzes because they let me know if I am reading the right stuff or not. I start fundamentals on Monday!!! Good luck to everyone else beginning nursing school or thinking about it!!

I can completely understand how you are feeling. I was laid off from my position due to budget cuts then here comes a letter saying "You have been chosen as a Primary" for the LPN program. When I recieved my acceptance letter I was so excited and now I feel like I am walking on pins and needles because I am so nervous to begin the program.

I am planning to start school to become a LVN. The problem is that I do not know which school to choose from here in Stockton. I went to Kaplan College in they charge toooo much money $27,000, and not including books... There are these two others schools that I am looking into called Xavier College and Healthcare College of Ca. They charge $20,000, but do not offer financial aid. :( Which school is better and why??? If anyone knows of another school th, please let me know???

One N Only JoJo, are you locked in to starting an LVN/LPN program? if not, check into RN (two year ADN) programs). They are only a little longer but less expensive and you'll be that much farther ahead of the game with your RN.... having said that, once you have your LPN, you can skip ahead one or two semesters if you decide to switch to an RN program. Good luck!

Hey! I start Nursing school on Friday and I am so nervous that it will be way to overwhelming to handle. Does anyone have any good advice to help me relax and not freak out to much. Thanks!

take a deep breath, keep all your handouts, schedules, clinical info-super neat and organized, and try to not get behind in readings etc. And keep an open mind! Good luck!

I already have everything color coded already my welcoming packet with classes color coded as well. I think I just want to dive into it so I can get the first day over with I mean thats the hardest day just trying to get situated right?
