Sorry, I feel incredibly embarrassed to be asking, but I wasn't sure. Are nurses with associate's degrees allowed to be certified for specialties? I feel like it's an obvious question, I'm just missing the answer. :/

There are so many different types of certifications and organizations that provide them, that there is no one single answer to that question. You'll have to check the requirements of the particular certification that interests you. (Though it is my belief that several do require at least a BSN.)
For a good list of the certifications ... I suggest you start with the American Nurses Credentialing Center. If you look under the Magnet program information, there is a list of certifications that they accept. You could then look up the requirements for some of the certifications on the list to get a feel for the common requirements.

Okay, thank you! My interests are set on Medsurg currently, but I'll look into that and check :)
