SPC fall 2020 nursing program

Hi all,

I was looking for a post about SPC's fall 2020 nursing program and one hadn't been posted yet. So I figured I would make one. I know the application only opened a few days ago, so I might be getting a head of myself LOL. I applied early Saturday morning what about you guys?

Also, good luck to everyone!:)

Hi, @mks_533 You should have received a confirmation email in your outlook email. It should say "HEC Admissions". I attached an image of what it should look like (I hope you're able to see it). I got my confirmation email the same day I applied, almost immediately after. You can maybe type it in the search bar to see if it comes up? Application closes on the 15th I believe, so if you don't have the confirmation email I would try and talk to an HEC advisor to see if they can check for you. If it for some odd reason didn't go through you will have time to resubmit an application. I believe you're correct...To my knowledge there isn't a way to check your status after applying.

Also, GOOD LUCK to you. I hope you get accepted:)

Greetings,

Did any of you guys retake any of your classes to improve your GPA? If so how many times I know you have 3 attempts overall?

Hello @mrodri33,

Correct you have 3 attempts. Are you trying to get in for fall or Spring? I had to retake A&P1 lab one time. I wouldn't get too caught up in trying to get straight A's, that's just not everyone's reality. If you have a couple of B's leave them, If you have a C in like a science or something if you're able then possibly retake it. But if you've already applied I would just wait to see what happens. I would contact a HEC advisor to get better direction. I know people who got B's and C's in their prereqs and were accepted. It also depends on what your current program GPA is (which only includes the sciences so A&P1 an 2 and then micro) and your overall GPA (which for the nursing program the only include the classes that are listed in the admissions guide.) Don't feel pressured to share your GPA I know some people are uncomfortable doing that. I've attached the image below for you or anyone else who may not know or remember which classes those are.

I also want to add not just for you, but anyone else that may read this. Don't be discouraged or embarrassed about having to retake a class or classes. Outside of A&P1's lab I had to retake one other class unrelated to nursing (Math ugh). And I used to be a little embarrassed about it. Don't be! Everyone doesn't just breeze through school?

I hope this helps! Good luck in your nursing journey:)

Hi MaNixon,

Thank you so much for the helpful feedback. Unfortunately, I won’t be applying for fall. Why? Because I let the B’s get to my head. I just finished up Microbilogy and ended up with B’s. The goal was to get A’s but with the transition to online due to the pandemic it really took a toll on me.

I understand, I felt the same way. I wasn't going to apply for fall and convinced myself it would be pointless. I have one C (In A&P 1 lecture) from my first semester. I was going through a lot at that time and couldn't focus like I needed to. Everything else I have A's and a couple of B's. I never got the chance to retake it and got really discouraged. But then I talked to a HEC advisor and she was very encouraging. So I decided to just go for it and see what happens. I might not get it, but hey I tried. Ah, yeah I know that transition was hard for a lot of students. I hope we don't have to stay online for fall. B's are still good! :) I wouldn't worry about retaking any classes. I'm sure you will get in for Spring 21. If this helps at all...Spring semester is typically less competitive to get into and the GPA range is a bit more laxed as far as what they accept.

Spring application opens on July 1st so be ready. You got this:)

Hi MaNixon,

Has anyone heard yet?

@Gspbikes Hi!

They said they most likely won't be sending out the letters/emails until later this month and or on July 1st. If you hear anything please keep us posted (if you feel comfortable).

Good luck to you in your nursing journey:)

@mrodri33 Hey,

So I believe my GPA is at a 3.3. That's low for fall so I'm not as competitive. But I am taking Humanities and ethics over Summer and I have A's in both so for Spring I will be at a 3.5 or 3.6 with 30/30 credits completed and will be more competitive.

Average acceptance for Fall is 3.8 GPA with 28. something credits out of 30 completed.

Average acceptance for Spring is 3.5 with 28. something out of 30 credits completed.

Hope this helps:)

@mrodri33 Hey!

I just realized I didn't say which advisor sorry. I meet with ------------------------- from the HEC. I have my regular advisor at my home campus, but I see, ---------------- about anything nursing related.

Hi all, I applied for the associate degree program for fall 2020 and am nervous and eagerly awaiting my admissions decision like you.

  • Prereq GPA: 4.0
  • Credits completed: 30/30 (Plus a bachelor's degree in psychology)
  • Overall GPA: 3.89
  • Pinellas County resident

I think it'll be helpful to others to post our stats and eventual admissions decision. I'm fortunate to be above the average acceptance stats but know this is far from a guarantee.
