Sonoma State Fall 2015

Published

Everything has been submitted to NursingCas as well as my transcripts to SSU. Now comes the nerve wrecking part-WAITING! I feel as though I might not make the cut. They only accept 24 students and most of those that do accepted into the program are the straight A students (I attended the Nursing Information Session). Mind you I have some B's and scored low on my TEAS (80%) and decisions are made next month. I am also waiting on SF State, which accepts 80 and getting my application package ready for PUC. I might have a better chance of getting into PUC because its private, so it is really really expensive. PUC is my last option because it's a two step program...which sounds like a waste of time. Fingers crossed for my first choice-SSU!

Good luck to you! I'm currently in my second semester in SSU's BSN program. Here are some words of encouragement - there are quite a few of my classmates who scored lower on the TEAS as well as have lower GPAs with some Bs in the prereqs. This year our class compiled data for students wanting to apply to the program. The range of TEAS scores for my class was 84 to 98 (90% average) Our range of GPA was 3.4 to 4.0 (3.7 average). The average amount of Bs in the prereqs was 0.75 (lol). Hope this helps give you a better idea. Feel free to ask any questions about the program that you're curious about!

Thanks meib92! That makes me feel a little better. Did you get the 15 local points and how did you score on your essay questions? I tried to do my best on the essay questions, and I'm talking about proofread after proofread lol.

Did anyone of your classmates end up on the alternate program list and that's how they got into the program? Or were did they all make the first list?

Yes everyone in my class got the 15 local points. And I'm not sure what I got on my essays, I never asked. I know they're pretty important though. Two people in my class made it into the program who were on the alternate list.

Did you submit your transcripts to Nursing CAS as well? I believe that only Nursing CAS gets the transcripts (unless you are referring to the official transcripts that have to be sent to SSU admissions for transfer). I thought that the only thing that we need to send to the SSU nursing department is the $50 application fee. I have applied as well and I am super nervous as SSU is the only school that I applied to this year.

Hi meib92! Thank you so much for your help. I'm starting to feel like my chances are slim to none at this point. My transferrable GPA is 3.6 but Nursing CAS calculated all of my courses which dropped my GPA down to 3.28. My prereq GPA is 3.79 and my TEAS is 88%, but I feel like my overall GPA will definitely hurt my chances. Did they tell you guys how many applicants there were for your application cycle?

Yes I had to submit transcripts to NursingCAS and my official transcripts to SSU. Also, I am sure you did this but remember that SSU wanted an official TEAS transcript sent directly to them as well. I feel your anxiousness Jl0202! Do you happen to know when they start sending out the acceptance emails?

Don't lose hope yet! Last year there was around 150 applicants

They send out acceptance emails in mid-April. :)

I received the rejection email today from SSU :dead:

I did too. When I saw how NursingCAS did the GPA calculations I somewhat expected that as my remedial courses from WAY back dropped my overall GPA down substantially. However, other CSU's have different criteria and I am looking forward to applying at another CSU for their spring start. I have pretty good stats based on their criteria. You should look around as well. You might find that your stats are a perfect fit somewhere else. Good luck!

I also got rejected! Best wishes for your future endeavors to you all!
