I have been a travel nurse for 2 yrs (nurse for 15). I love traveling but wanted to stay home for awhile and get some ICU experience so I applied at my old hsp where I worked tele for 4 yrs. I was turned down because someone said I did "just enough to get by and wasn't a team player"
I always got good evals, and I was always helping anyone out.
Of course the Rn recruiter that told me this will not tell me who said that.
I am very distressed about this. I also went to another hosp across town and applied for tele and was turned down. So someone is really out to get me. Any hosp that I have traveled at or worked per diem for has Loved me and want me to come on staff. So I am totally mystified and very hurt by these accusations. My husband says I should lawyer up and sue for slander. Any thoughts??
Thanks

I think it has nothing to do with what an employee said about you because as a hospital employee I have seen a trend to hire new grads in specialty areas.
The reasoning behind this move is that in theory new grads are easier to mold and shape into these fields but as an older RN you are less likely to change your ways to accomodate into this new area.
I do not think it was right for the nurse recruiter to tell you it was because an employee had said you were not a team player.
However, I do encourage you to request a copy of your personal record from HR and review it and if there is no bad comment is mentioned I would make a note to tell her about it.

wow, that is really unprofessional of her to tell you that. I would also agree that you should ask for a copy of all your reviews and see if it is documented. I would not get a lawyer. I think it would be an uphill battle. just keep working hard, and your actions will speak for themselves.

Forget about the lawyer. You would just end up spending money. Like the poster's above I would suggest looking at your HR file and adding your own comments if needed.
Try applying for med-surg or tele at your old hospital. It is doubtful that they would hire you into the ICU because of being a traveler. From their point of view you are trying to change specialties in traveling. You want them to pay for your training (expensive), will work for the minimum amount of time before leaving again to go out on the road.
If you show them that you are not trying to change specialties but want to stay home and stop traveling they are more likely to hire you. Then later you can do an internal transfer to ICU.
Good luck in finding work near home.
