You can tell when you give your notice. If this gas been a decent employer I would give 4 weeks and if not they get two.

I have heard from many people that telling the unit too early really make the last few months really rough. My manager really has a resentment against RNs who "use" the ICU to go to CRNA school. I would love to hear others experience with this!

I agree rn444 I would love to tell everyone! I also wanted my manager to hear it from me not through the grapevine because a few people i work with also applied to the program and didn't get in and know that I did. And I know my old manager who recently retired would be so happy for me! But I am unsure on my new manager. So that is why I am conflicted on what to do!

I told my close friends at work the day I got in, and everyone else about 2 weeks later. Nobody treated me differently on my unit. However, other units would dump on me.

I walked in one night on another unit I was pulled to, and saw I had a fresh admission and another one coming. When I asked what was up with that, the charge nurse said "Well they heard you got into CRNA school and wanted to make sure you stay on your A game before leaving." Seriously.

But beware, if you're telling anyone outside of your close friends you trust, the whole hospital will know within a week. So if you don't want your manager knowing, I'd keep it on the DL.

I got in this week and I've told everyone including my manager. 9 months until the start of the program. She wrote me a letter of rec so she knows I applied. Fortunately I have a good relationship with those I work with. We've had several RN's go to school in the last couple of years and there is very rarely hard feelings. Most of us have been hard workers, involved in committees, and leaders in the unit. Hopefully you will have support.

yeah in my experience i made the mistake of telling my boss that i was going to CRNA school 2 months before i left and it was pretty bad.. My Hours were cut back.. i was given the short shifts.. and i remember several days where i would come have one-on-one patient like a hypothermia going bad with a preceptor.. and charging.. when i went to my boss about it she said well it's ok your leaving in a couple of months.. are all bosses like this.. No i doubt it.. but in the future i will only be giving a 2 -3 week notice before leaving somewhere.. Good luck

I don't get it didn't you need a letter from your manager? I got one from manager, educator and medical director, kind of hard to keep it a secret from that point.

In my situation i had a manager that left a few months before i applied and they had just hired a new manager so I got the previous manager to fill out a letter of recommendation.. but honestly you don't have to use your manager 100 % of the time when i was applying some of them said an immediate superior which could also mean your Charge nurse.. which the manager i'm referring to was pretty bad and one of the girls on our unit applying just used the charge nurse instead of our manager and still got an interview..? don't know if this is the case everywhere though

Double check on how long you have to give. Both of the major hospitals I worked at required that we had to give 4 weeks. I think I gave like 5 weeks notice before I left.
