Simulation Lab / Clinical Instructor

Published

Hello,

I am starting a new job this week and would like some input. The job is as adjunct faculty for SIM lab and on-site clinical instructor. My questions are

Does the instructor wear scrubs in the SIM lab?

Should I bring a laptop to my hospital clinical site? What all do I bring?

Any tips on getting organized and prepared would be appreciated.

Usually scrubs or business casual with a lab coat. I would refer to your facility's dress code policy and ask your employer what you are to bring with you. Good luck!

I agree...scrubs or business casual with a lab coat (both with a lab coat), in the SIM lab.

A laptop is too bulky to carry around at clinicals and you'll be on the move alot. I carried an IPad in case I had to look things up. If you have a smart phone, that should work, but some facilities don't allow phones on their units, so be careful. There will probably be a computer there, that you can use, but you might not be able to use it all you'd like. I assume your students will be doing computer charting?

Bring whatever you would bring if you were working on the unit as a nurse, so that you have it, just in case. Also, bring your course/clinical syllabus and text and any forms you might need, if you don't have them on whatever computer you'll use. Bring pens and paper. Bring something to drink and some quick snacks, until you figure out what won't be available there.

It would be great if you could go to the facility one day and just explore and talk to people, so you know where things are and so they're familiar with you. Will you need a key or a badge to get in?

Thanks you all. First day went great!
