Hi Guys
A couple of weeks ago in clinical, i was giving metoprolol. I check the BP and radial pulse, but just found out today you should also check the apical pulse when giving this med. Is this right? Should i report to someone that i didnt do this?
Thanks

First think about what this drug does. It is a Beta blocker. Why is the BP important? Why is the HR important? What will this drug do to the heart? What will happen if we give this drug to someone with a very low blood pressure or bradycardia? What can listening to an apical pulse tell you over simply palpating a radial?
Think this one through and you should be able to come up with your own answer, and no this is not something that needs to be reported, just do an apical assessment next time : - )

Please do not report this, just do an apical pulse next time. Be very careful next time..look into your drug book to see the assessments.

As it happened two weeks ago, I agree with everyone else and would also let it go. But that means you have no excuse for forgetting next time!
