Should I throw in the towel?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So, I finished my first year of community college with less than flying colors.. and the other day, I "woke up and smelled the coffee." Last year, I figured everything in my pre-req courses would eventually "Come to me." and i was left dissapointed with my grades, through my own fault, i believe..

do you think if I do well this semester, I still have a chance at this nursing thing? Or should I just throw in the towel and give up on it all? i cannot see myself doing much of anything else. I vow to really devote myself to my studies and not let anything get in my way... any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.. Do you still think I can make it into a program?

It's ONLY one semester!!!! If you failed something then retake it next semester. If your trying to get into a competitive program that requires A's then retake the courses for A's.

The main thing is to get serious now. You are the only one who really knows if you want this bad enough to put your all into it. Really sit down and think it out because you don't want to waste time and money on something your not really wanting to do in the first place.

If you really want it then go for it, but put your all in it. If you need to cut down on the amount of classes so you are not overloaded. Make sure you set times for study, put it in your calander, and stick with it. I bet next semester will go much smoother.

My first year of college I dropped more classes than I complete. My grades in the classes I completed weren’t exactly fantastic either. From there I ended up dropping out of school for a year and discovering I hated working in retail with a passion and really needed to do more with my life. I enrolled back in school, started working as a CNA and I’ve been accepted to start nursing school in January.

The 87 after your name leads me to believe that you went straight from high school to college. I’m honestly surprised that more students don’t fail out of their first year of college. It can be a huge change and shock.

There are a couple of things you can do next year. If you need it, take a semester off to regroup and come up with a new game plan. If you can, go to school as a part-time student and work up to being a full-time student. If you need to be a full-time student for insurance reasons, make sure you sit down with a counselor to work out your school schedule. They can be a lot of help when it comes to balancing a do-able school schedule.
