Should I keep trying?!

I have wanted to be a Nurse my entire life and I finally finished my pre-reqs and applied to the school here and got my letter that I was not selected last night. It is VERY competitive here so I figured it was coming. However, I have worked EXTREMELY hard to just get to this point due to so many things happening in my life and I have friends in other states who just randomly woke up one morning and decided they wanted to be Nurses and they are already half way done with their programs and here I am, can't get into the program. Now, I cannot see myself doing anything else, I don't want to do anything else, but I can't keep waiting year after year and not getting anywhere!! I truly feel I would be an amazing Nurse, but, is this a sign that maybe I should look into a different career?? :( Has anyone else experienced anything like this??

    Don't give up! You want it, keep applying every where near you. ADN, BSN, apply to them all. I have seen people get denied over 8 times, but they never gave up and got in. Remember it's not that you aren't smart enough it's just extremely competitive and all depends on who is applying at the time. If yours isn't a rolling bases anyway. Good luck.

    Oh wow, I totally understand your plight! From 2004-2010, I was trying to get into a nursing program. April 2010, I finally started a RN program. I knew a lot of people who went through their program, started to work as a RN, and was already starting on their higher degree when I began my nursing education. I was sad (and jealous) but when I finally got into a program I was thankful and I believed I was my time to become a nurse.

    I know what it feels like to get those rejection letters, it hurts..bad. But do not give up. If you really want to be a nurse, you won't give up. I kept on saying well I may become a nutritionist if nursing doesn't work out, but being nutritionist wasn't in my heart.

    I had the chance of moving out of state (which was very competitive also) and that is where I went to nursing school. If that is a possibility for you, maybe that can be an option.

    Keep on trying. Do not give up!
