Shock

Hi,

I wonder if anyone could help me, i have to a presentation on the role of the endocrine system only in shock. I sort of know the basics about hormone release i.e. epinephrine etc, but does anyone else have any ideas.

what kind of shock are you referring to?

different hormones would kick into place, depending on the mechanisms of action involved.

some of them would be acth, gh, thyroid hormones, adh, etc.

again, it would depend on what type of shock and its' particular sequelae.

Ugh.......shock is actually quite a complex reaction. Just studied this in patho.

The endocrine system comes into play during the compensatory stages of shock. (Three stages: initial, compensatory, and progressive - (I'm looking at my critical care nursing book). This involves the pitutarary gland being stimulated which secretes ACTH, which in turn stimulates the adrenal cortex to stilumulate to produce glucocorticoids, causing a rise in blood glucose levels, as well as release of eip and norepi. (to vasoconstrict).

These are two glands in the endrocrine system and you might focus on these actions.
