Shingles?

GOING OVER SOME QUESTIONS WITH KAPLAN AND I'M NOT SURE IF I'M GETTING THIS RIGHT.. CAN U PLS HELP ME CLARIY AND UNDERSTAND THIS..

NURSE HAS SHINGLES. I PICKED THE ANSWER THAT SAYS THAT SHE CAN NOT COME TO WORK UNTIL HER LESIONS HAVE CRUSTED... KAPLANS RATIONALE SAID THAT SHE CAN, BUT ASSIGN HER TO NON HIGH RISK PT AND FOR HER TO COVR THE LESIONS.. OK.. I GET THAT... I GUESS I UNDERSTAND WHY IM WRONG...

BUT ANOTHER QUESTION FROM KAPLAN WAS A STUDENT NURSE HAS SHINGLES, I ALSO PICKED THE ANSWER THAT SAID SHE CANNOT CARE FOR PTS UNTIL HER LESIONS ARE CRUSTED.. AND I WAS CORRECT...

SO I GUESS IM A LITTLE CONFUSED.. I THOUGHT THAT YOU CAN NOT CARE FOR PTS BC OF OPEN LESIONS WHICH ARE CONTAGIOUS.... WUT WUD NCLEX WANT?

Well, that made me confused! *lol* I'm not sure what NCLEX would want nor why Kaplan would say that, but from what I know is that lesions need to be crusted over in order for them to not be considered contagious anymore, and that a nurse cannot take care of a pt who hasn't had the chickenpox (not immune to the Herpes-Zoster virus). If I'm wrong, I apologize, but that is my understanding. *shrug*

yeah thats what i always thought.. hello.. open lesions.. shingles.. varicella... but i just didnt understand why kaplan contradicted itself.. yikes... thanks for reassuring me!

Yea...I came across these same questions today on Kaplan. I think it is correct that they must be crusted over before you can return to work/school. I take the n-clex for my second time on Thursday....please pray for me!!! When do you take it?
