Shift Bidding Program

The hospital I work for is implementing a shift bidding system online. We are trialing it for six weeks. Does anyone out there know how this system really works? We were inserviced on the basics, but I am having trouble believing that we will all be fighting to work these shifts that they can't staff on the best of days. Any real life input would be appreciated. Thanks
