Shadowing a nurse?

Hi. I am new to this forum. I am considering nursing as a career but I don't want to get into anything without having an idea what a nurse does (detailed) day to day. I was wondering if anyone knew of any way to shadow a nurse in Los angeles? I was hoping to shadow a nurses in the ICU or CRNA or pretty much anything else. I have tried applying for volunteer positions at hospitals but the exposure isnt that great. Also I am willing to commute a little further out if it is needed

Thanks!!!

I'm a Pre-Nursing student and I am shadowing next Friday.

Do you know a nurse? Ask him/her how they would go about being able to shadow someone. If they are generous like my nurse friend was they'll offer to have you shadow them. If not, they'll direct you to the right channels.

Hope you have a great shadowing experience and have some clarity about what you want to do!

I started out as a volunteer at a women's hospital, and that's what prompted me to go get my CNA certificate.

At first they just had me filling water and doing paperwork, but after a while the director of med-surg asked if I wanted to start shadowing nursing techs. I told her sure, and a few months later, they let me shadow nurses in med-surg and ICU.

That's too bad the volunteering opportunities didn't give you what you wanted. I volunteered in the ER at a local hospital restocking patient rooms once vacant. Just being in the ER in the midst of the whole flow was worth my time and certainly was a valuable learning experience! best of luck though :)
