Shadow in NYC

Published

Hi,

I'd like to shadow a nurse in NYC to decide if I'm nurse material. Does anyone know how I would go about doing this?

Thanks,

Karen

hiyas!

Excellent choice.... shadowing is always a good thing... best bet, I'd imagine, is try to talk to people in HR at hospitals and nursing homes and medical centers...

good luck!

How about contacting the human resource department of a hospital and request to observe a unit for a while because of your interest in nursing??

If you're interested in providing care, you can also join a volunteer program many hospitals have. These hospital volunteer programs have volunteers help out with simple things like passing out newspapers and books to the patients, etc.

Honestly, I haven't heard of any formal "shadow program" where you can watch a nurse for a day. Doesn't mean they don't exist, though.

One final thought. How about contacting a nursing school, explain to them your interest and see if they could be of help.

Hope this is helpful. :)
