I am an ADN graduate considering school nursing. I've noticed that the job requirements include certification and or BSN graduate. Can you still get certified with ADN for employment or is that just offered to BSN nurses? :typing

ADN's qualify to take the certification tests but you must first have 2 years of full time experience in the area you are testing in before you are allowed to register for the test.
How could I even get 2 yrs experience without certification?
You can't. That's the point. You get a job, say on Med/Surg, you work there for 2 years full time and then take the certification test. If the job ad specifically states that they are looking for an RN with certification in a specific area then you're out of luck, you'll have to keep looking. I rarely see an ad that requires certification unless it's OB or L&D.

i see you live in the chicago area, if you are talking about CPS they have great benefits and of course you have an awesome schedule, but they do require a BSN. they will hire without the hospital experience, but not without the BSN. i think you should get your feet wet for a couple of years, get some peds experience, start doing your BSN classes one by one and then apply. Good Luck!!!

It depends on the state and on the specific school district whether a BSN is required. In my school district in Mass. you need a BSN and also to be Dept of Education certified.
