Scary Side Effects

Recently I figured out why I have been feeling like I have the flu, along with being really dizzy...its was from Naprosen! Has anyone else ever experienced this? I was only taking 2 every day or every other day, but then I found out you shouldn't take it longer than 10 days! OOPS!

I'm just glad I figured this out, I won't touch it again. I was just using it for muscle aches.:o

Well I was on effexor and developed really bad constipation, I mean really bad, but the docs never thought of that and diagnosed the pain as being related to gall-stones. I almost had surgery (I do have gall-stones but the pain was related to constipation). Had a good poop, pain gone. Taught me a valuable lesson on how serious constipation is when dealing with residents (I worked in long term care at the time). I also discovered the miracle of stool softners while being on that medication....what a relief.

Never got dizzy from the stuff but do have to be careful about it because of GI upset. If my arthritis acts up I take it from 1 to 3 days, that is about all I can tolerate. I took it for five days once and learned the hard way how hard it can be on the tummy. I was just saying over on another thread that since I have been taking fish oil, my need for NSAIDS has been greatly reduced. :balloons:

I have tried Naproxen before and it made me feel like my blood sugar was bottoming out. I feel the same way with Sulfa meds too. It isn't just nausea, I get diaphoretic, weak and shaky. I have absolutely no problems taking ibuprofen...even on an empty stomach.

I will tell you that is one wicked drug! be careful. I was supposed to take it evey day for a heel spur that I have. I was only taking it PRN when the heel spur flared up. Well last year, I had developed a pretty wicked cold and was placed on a high dose of Augmentin (i believe 2000mg daily). I took my Metformin (for PCOS) and the Alleve because my heel spur was acting up. I had to take all with food, so I took them all together with breakfast. Within 5 minutes, I became itchy all over, no rash, but itchy. I thought it was weird, but it stopped, so i didnt really worry too much. I called my doctor too and they werent sure what it was. (BTW this was during my nursing orientation for my job)

A week later, my last day of my antibiotic, I foolishly did the same thing. Took the ABT, Alleve, and Metformin. I am in orientation class and i start to develop welts, itchy, my nose begins to run, and I feel SOB. I thought the SOB was from me panicking. The poor next to me was freaking out. Guess she was afraid she would have to code me.

I ran to the hospital gift shop and took two benadryll. Finally, it subsided. However, I was asleep for most of the afternoon during orientation. LOL. Called my MD, thought it may have just been a drug reaction, but advised me not take the mdes in combination again. luckily, i didnt need the ABT anymore.

A month later, i took the alleve ALONE, and developed the same reaction, itchy, welts, SOB, etc. I felt my throat closing. It was so scary. I popped Benadryll STAT and it stopped. But really thought I was heading to the ER. Called my MD and we have deemed that my allergy is now to Alleve. Saw an allergist who tested me for ABT, and I was fine. So with that said, I now can not take and Ibuprofen or Alleve ever again! :o Stuck with tylenol.

My advice, just be careful with Alleve! Learn from my experience.

Hope you are feeling better
