san antonio

Hello everyone! I am a new graduate nurse and was wondering if anyone out there knows the starting salary for a nurse in san anton area...also if anyone knows of any good neighborhoods in the area it would be greatly appreciated...thank you..also any hospitals with new grad programs would be so great , because i am having a hard time locating..those programs

Hello, I just move to San Antonio. For neighborhoods, the areas North and Northwest are nice. I currenlty live near Evans Rd and Hwy 281, but we are bulding a home in Bulverde.

For starting salary, you are looking at anywhere from $19 to $22 per hour base plus your differentials. Salary here isn't near as good as other areas, but the cost of living is a little cheaper and that is probably why. We just moved here from Houston (that is where I just graduated from May 8th-yes I commuted for two semesters!). My peers are getting jobs that are starting out between $24-$26 base. But the cost of living there is higher AND I found their differentials are less then mine. So overall, they are not really making much more than me.

I just accepted an ICU internship at Methodist Hospital. As far as GN positions what I found is they really don't post them. You have to go to the hospital and get a hold of a recruiter to find out what they have available.

I'm originally from California, and have been living in Texas for nearly 3 years. Culturally, I sometimes stick out like a sore thumb because I talk "funny," according to some of the people around here. "You're definitely not from Texas" is the comment I hear often. However, these same people fail to realize that they would sound "funny" if they relocated to the Northeast, Midwest, or West with their Texas drawl.

A friend of mine moved here from New Jersey in 2005. While she liked living here, she also prominently stuck out due to her "Joisey Girl" accent.
