Safe Haven

I was wondering has anyone had a women declare safe haven for her baby while she was in labor and delivery or post partum (not just delivered at home and came in) but actually while she was a patient??? If so, how did you handle it

In my time on my unit (nearly 4 years) we have had it happen once in L/D/postpartum. Mom came in, delivered, and left 6 hours later. Said anyone who wanted the baby could have her, and signed out AMA. Sad situation. We kept the baby in the nursery and took care of her until social services got there to assume custody.

that's sad, but the only good thing about that is that they didn't leave the baby unattended in a dangerous place or even worse, in a trash can, like we all have heard those horrific stories about babies left alone. at least she didn't physically hurt the baby in any way. but still heart breaking to hear someone left their baby, especially after delivering a baby when they're so small and cute and we as mother's can't wait to bond with them. may god bless all the babies:heartbeat
