Saddleback Spring '09

According to the application process, prospective students will be notified of Spring '09 acceptance by September 1st. Anyone here waiting on a letter? Unfortunately my GPA puts me in the "lottery" portion of the selection process. I'd rather win entry than a million dollars right now! :D

I'm waiting on a letter, too! Needless to say, I'm jumping up and checking for the mail every 5 minutes...:D

They do a lottery??? I thought it was merit-based only? I wasn't even going to apply to Saddleback because I don't have straight A's in the prerequisites, so I figured I wouldn't apply because I don't have a snowball's chance in H----

Hmmm.......I may have to apply for Fall '09 then!

I don't have my paperwork next to me, but it was explained at Saddleback orientation that X number of students are admitted in total, 60% of them will be merit based and the remaining 40% are lottery (% points may not be exactly that, but you get the idea).

The week before I turned in my application I had some new grades entered into my record by a counselor. She led me to believe after a call to the department that GE completed is going to reflect positively on overall applications. But don't quote me on that because I think she had WAY too much coffee that morning!

Golden West is 100% lottery using some math algorithm.

Thanks for the info! I looked it up on their website, and it said 75% is merit-based and 25% is lottery. I'm going to go to an information session this fall FOR SURE to get all the information I can!

I already have a BA and have taken tons of other prerequisites (Psychology, Sociology, Statistics, etc....) because I thought I'd go to a private school and get my BSN....but if I can get into Saddleback's program then I'll go there for sure! If I go to a private school, I'll have at least $40,000 in loans!!!

Do they only look at your grades in Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology? Or do they also look at a previous BA, volunteer experience, etc...?

Download the application bundle and you will know exactly what they are going to tell you at the orientation session. They don't care if you have a PhD in medicine and volunteer 100 hours a week, just meet the minimum basic requirements (Engl, Anat, Phys, Micro with C or better and overall 2.5 GPA) and your name is added to the pool.

The packet shows the program curriculum which includes classes you can work on while not actually in the program, excluding GE classes.

When I dropped my application off, I was told that they will not being notifying anyone until "after September 13th."

The thing I don't like about ANY of these programs (even at the BSN or Direct Entry MSN level) is that an applicant isn't notified until the start of a semester, so that you are either already enrolled in classes you might not need to take, or haven't enrolled in classes you WILL need to take. I'm taking three classes this Fall '08 semester, each for a different program "just in case." One should really be notified of admission BEFORE registration for the prior semester!

As of this morning a program assistant said:

You can rest assured that the notifications will not be going out this week. The plan was for them to go out around September 15th. Good luck and hope for the best!

I thought that maybe they gave the September 13th date to stave off the multitude of telephone calls they start getting around the end of August. I wonder why it takes so long to evaluate the applications. Long Beach only takes 3 or 4 weeks. Oh well!

Notices came out today. If you're in, you're in; if you're not, you're not.

LOL, that seems pretty straightforward ;) Did you get a notice? Nothing in my mailbox except a present from my mom :p

Yeah, I guess it was a little terse:chuckle. The reason was that our Pharmacology teacher posted a notice on Blackboard last Tuesday or so, asking people to PLEASE stop calling the Nursing office and asking about the acceptance letters, because the office was being bombarded with calls. Everyone was clearly told that they would be notified after September 13th, and so it just amazes me when people can't wait and have to bother staff!

I got a letter yesterday (on September 13th!!), but I only applied as back-up, because I applied to Georgetown for a Direct Entry program, and I have an interview on the 18th, so am flying to Washington DC on the 17th. I'll find out if I was accepted on October 3rd.
