Hello, first time poster here.
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the nursing program at Ryerson? If so, what are your experiences with the professors, classrooms and clinical? Do you have any advice for someone who is just finishing up his high school diploma and is thinking about applying there next year?
Also, a concern that I have is with grades. I would consider myself an average student. I got a 76% in my grade 11 university math (a little depressed about that since I was hoping to get above 80), and I'm now just about to begin science (bio and chem). So in terms of grades, what are the expectations when it comes to admissions?
Thanks.

Welcome, welcome.
I can't speak specifically for Ryerson, but I can tell you that the majority (well, actually virtually all) nursing schools have a minimum GPA they're looking for, say 3.5, when in reality the number of qualified applicants so far outnumber the available slots that they end up only taking those with the very highest scores. I don't believe it should be all about grades, but we've moved to such an academic, elitist model of nursing education that there's little room for consideration of other equally important facets. By this I mean things like personality, dedication, drive, compassion, life experience... and the ability to integrate what one learns or knows with what one does. The selection committees are really only selecting paper people... they look great on paper.
If you really want to be a nurse, I advise you to study your little heart out and get the absolute best possible grades in every subject you can. That might mean having no life at all, but nursing school isn't really going to allow much of a life anyway. At least not at first. Then again, actually being a nurse doesn't always allow for much of a life either if you believe some of the things you might read here.

Hi Mikee,
I'm actually in my first semester of the collaborative degree program at the Centennial site. I was an applicant for the Ryerson site but was given an alternate offer to Centennial because my average wasn't high enough.
I know I'm only going into my third week of the program, but so far so good :) Professors are really good, they seem pretty competent from what I've gathered so far. The class sizes are small, maybe 50-55 at the most. The course load is really heavy, first semester there are seven classes (this is actually the only free moment I've had in the last two week lol).
I had an 80 average when applying to Ryerson and was put on a waitlist, but was given the offer for Centennial so I took that instead. The program is literally identical at all three sites (george brown college is included in the collaborative program), and 4/7 of my profs are employeed at both Centennial and Ryerson.
Its a great program insofar you keep up with your readings and don't fall behind. there are a few people already playing catch-up in my section and it's only the third week!
The minimum requirement to get into the Ryerson site is something like 77-80% but because of the huge amounts of applications they got this year, the cut-off was something like 85-87% Centennial and George Brown on the other hand had a cut-off of about 75-78% and that's what they say you need to have to get in.
Don't worry about math, try your hardest in all the sciences and math pre-reqs and you'll be fine. I believe you need a minimum of 65% in Bio and the rest there's a minimum of 60%
Remember that the program bases admissions solely on averages. So try to take some "bird courses" in high school to boost your average. Aim for at least a 75-80% and most of the schools in the GTA will accept you.
Anyway, good luck, I need to get back to my homework

Well you'll be doing you apps soon right? If I remember correctly it's around this time of year you do your online applications.
February is the soonest you will know of an early admission.. and you'll only get one if you have all the required prerequisites and a decent average
You'll love the Ryerson collaborative program if you decide to do it. Good luck
