Rush GEM Fall 2012

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone else out there has applied to the Rush GEM program for the Fall 2012 (September) start date. I already had my interview and am anxiously waiting to hear something from the school! At the "First Look" session they had, I heard from one of the current students that the application pool was really competitive this year. Anyone else hear something like this? Yikes!

Anyone else out there to chewing their nails waiting?

@dwoodberg: Yeah, i work with someone who's just finishing up the program. How are you taking care of the immunizations and medical stuff.. do you just go to the doctor first for the physical? Is there a way to send messages on here, also?

:D

I apologize for the late response, @swcochran!

I think that you can only send messages on this site after posting a certain number of times. Pretty sure that I don't have that capability.

As for the immunizations, I think that I am going to have the titers drawn at Rush's Employee Health. They charge $25 each and there are 5 of them. Then I will know if I need boosters. I had the Tdap recently and will wait until August to get the TB-Quantiferon (they don't want us to get it any earlier than August 1). I don't need to have a physical since I had one in the last year or so. I'm sure that you could get it all done at your doctor if you need a physical though!

Are you planning on going to the student/faculty tea on June 13th?

I was just out here looking for a way to find the others in the Fall GEM 2012 cohort. It doesn't look like anyone has started a facebook group - I would do it if I knew anyone else ;). I'm happy to say that I'm in for the Fall and looking forward to meeting everyone else.

Did anyone attend the June Faculty Tea and how was it? I'm planning on attending the August Tea. Also, have you received any info about class schedules? Start date? I heard informally from Molly that orientation is on Aug 27. But, I've received NOTHING except the forms via email. I'm moving back to Chicago this summer and really looking forward to this program and coming home.

Hi Anne Marie!

I'm in for Fall 2012 and would definitely join your a facebook group if you create one :) My name is Dana Woodberg, if you want to look me up!

I wasn't able to make it to the June tea but I will definitely try to make it to the July and/or August. I haven't heard any other info from Rush either. I know that orientation is August 27 and classes start September 10, but that is just from the Rush website.

I hope to hear from you soon!

Dana

Hi Dana,

I think I found you on Facebook...did you attend Michigan State? Hope so or else I've attempted to friend some random person...

You found me!

@ Fall 2012 cohort:

Have you found what we need to purchase for equipment, scrubs, etc.? Or will that be part of orientation? I've had some people tell me to go and buy a stethoscope and others say to wait to get Rush's requirements.

Also, @ Dana, are you an employee at Rush? Is that required to use their Employee Health? I don't want to use my MD as my insurance doesn't cover...

hi all - reposting as it seems there was some sort of info loss over night on this site, but i'm also in the fall 2012 gem program and wanted to join in. congrats to all and excited to meet everyone! If a facebook page is started id love to join as well.

i'll be moving to chicago from nyc in august so looking forward to orientation/etc to get better acquainted. is anyone living in the apartments through rush?

again, congrats to those accepted and looking forward to meeting everyone -

genevieve

Nice to meet you Genevieve! I'm moving to Chicago from Omaha, NE. Although Chicago is my hometown, I haven't lived there in a while. I'll be in a condo in Lakeview. Are you going to live in Rush apartments? I look forward to meeting you. Best of luck on the move.

AnneMarie

I think that I am going to hold off on purchasing any equipment until after orientation. Also, you don't have to be a Rush employee to use their Employee Health. I called yesterday to verify and the woman I spoke to said to come in, no appointment necessary.

Hi Genevieve!

I already live in Chicago (in Lincoln Park). Will you be living in the Rush apartments? Can't wait to meet everyone!

Dana

Thanks for the information, Dana! I think I'm going to use Rush employee health when I get to Chicago in early August. That sounds way easier. I've been looking at stethoscopes, etc and getting an idea of what I want. But, I'm going to wait too. I heard from students at other schools that they have company reps that offer student pricing. I would imagine Rush would do the same. Now just have to be patient until Aug 27, which is hard since I've been working toward this for 3 1/2 years...
