Just wondering if anyone heard anything about the bridge program that is now in Ontario. I would like to find out some more info.
I am an rpn student in Ontario and as far as I know there is no bridge yet but they are working on one. I was talking to an rpn recently and she is going for her rn and she had to start from the beginning. Does anyone else out there know anymore?:)
I know of one person that had to start all over but I was on the RPANO website and I saw on the forum that said as of this January some colleges are offering the bridge. I recently emailed Centinnal Colege in Toronto because I heard they are offering this. This is the first time some are offering this which means there will be some glitches that will need to be sorted out. The person that said this said it was just approved last October. Anyway, keep your fingers crossed, it this is true I know there will be alot of rpn's going for this!
The bridge finally made it into Alberta 18 months ago. Check the admission requirements carefully. Usually you get one years credit for the PN license. Watch the admission requirements for the Biology and Chemistry courses. One community college offering the bridge expects you to have at least a B in Biology and Chemistry 12 and a c+ in Math 12. They state a mininumum grade in the leaflet and then have been known to tell LPN's that they need to have done the sciences within the last five years.
It cuts off a lot of nurses in their 30's and 40's. We almost have to go back and redo high school to be accepted into the bridge program. Basically, you need the same marks as a non nurse would to be accepted into the BScN program at university.
The bridge hasn't been what alot of LPN's had expected.
Wise words Fiona. Thanks for the advice.
Does anyone know how long the bridge at Centennial is?:)
