Hi there!
Looking for suggestions with rotoprone bed therapy
I am trying to determine if there is something better out there that could help us fix the skin breakdown seen on patients faces when using the rotoprone bed. We are proning more and more people but because of the breakdown we are seeing on faces, we have been pushing for more manual proning in the bed. We have tried the hydophillic foam and mepelexes like they suggest but doenst seem to be working. Any suggestions of things that have worked for you?

Ok so key things that we do to protect our Rotoprone pt's faces are:
1) Prior to proning take off the Hollister ET tube securement device and use twill tape / gauze to secure the ET tube. It will not be as secure as the Hollister securement device, but it really helps prevent device associated PU to the face when proned. This is our number one intervention to help this situation.
2) frame all bony prominences with Allevyn/Mepelex, etc.
3) make sure the head attachment on the Rotoprone bed is fitted correctly to your patient (you can call the manufacturer's help number to assistance in creating a good fit)
4) Reverse trendelenberg the bed to decrease facial swelling.
See for how to secure ET tube with twill tape:
