Are you a pre-nursing student or newly admitted student? How about changing careers or non-traditional student? Full-time mom? Previous degree? We all share information so effortlessly and we're all working towards a common goal....but we all have different life experiences. I'm curious to know why did you choose nursing, what specialty (if any) are you leaning towards? Is there a specific hospital? After becoming an RN...then what?
We might learn from each other!
I can start off:
I have always wanted to be in the medical field and have had the opportunity to dibble dabble in different areas. At one point, I thought maybe I could do something else, so I graduated college and eventually attained a senior management position. I realized that despite the pay and how quickly I was excelling, I didn't leave work feeling accomplished. So now that I've gotten that out my system...I'm ready to go!
As far as hospitals...I am in LOVE w/ CHOA. The people that work there are amazing...they are so happy even though they are dealing w/ some of the most difficult situations. I also have this "thing" for Emory. Recently, I've become interested in research which is how they fit in. So if GOD see's fit I plan on going to 2 year ADN program and doing a bridge option so I can eventually get my masters. I won't go into too much detail but I also I have a long term goal of impacting patient satisfaction/employee morale on a large scale.

I have one class to do to finish my pre-reqs, but I am married and a full time mom of soon to be of 2. Everyone always asks me how I juggle so much, but outside of my family and school, I have no life. I've always wanted to be a neonatal nurse practitioner ever since I was a child and that is still my goal. I plan on applying for a nurse residency in ATL that will allow me to go straight into pediatrics or ICU. I have already done the research on which hospitals will be the best for me. I currently still hold a medical assisting certification and that job was when I truly realized how much I enjoyed helping people. I volunteer 4-5 days out the week in a pediatric department to give myself a leg up, plus it gives me a chance to do something I love.

I am taking my last set of prerequisite classes now. I have know that I wanted to be a nurse for over 40 years. I served in the Army for 22 years. During that time I got married/divorced, and raised a family. Now that the kids are grown and self sufficient, it is finally time to live out my dream.
I was injured during my last deployment and struggle just about every day with pain. Knowing I have limitations, I am fine with pursuing LPN in stead of my RN. For now I am taking it one step at a time.

Thank you for your service! I was also injured while deployed, but thankfully it has gotten better with physical therapy. Best of luck to you as you pursue your dreams!
