RN vs NP

Hi all,

I got into Georgetown for my women's health nurse practitioner and certified nurse midwife program. Its what I always thought I wanted to do (delivery babies!!!!), I have a BS in Biology which drove me to nursing. I knew when I received my BS/premed degree I wanted to be a provider. Is Georgetown worth the 1800/credit price tag? I'm in Santa Barbara where the pay is not as well for the rest of RNs, I'm concerned about staying here (married, planning on having kids soon) is not worth it. I could move back to my parents home in northern California and potentially be paid the same as an RN and NP.

Help!!!

Also, anyone have a take home paycheck for a NP in Santa Barbara, CA?

Apparently I need more content, I received by BS in Nursing for Simmons College in Boston, which is a private school where I accumulated a fair about of dept. Is taking on more debt worth it? I'm 29 and want to start a MSN program now before I have kids.

    I know someone who graduated from that specific program. She told me that it was a waste of money. She claims that the price tag was not even close to bring worth it. It is prestigious, but it matters little in my opinion. She always complained about them having poor student support, which has a high priority for me, almost as much as pass rage for boards.

    My program is in the mid level for price but I am getting an amazing education and support. I went to a big name private RN program and I felt like I wasted tons of money, especially because I had horrible support.

    That is my concern, with paying the price tag for a Georgetown degree. However, I do want to be a NPWH CNM and I like the idea of being able to do it at my local hospital. The NPWH is a harder program to find than a FNP. Did your friend say it was easier to get job after graduation, due to the schools reputation?

    I'm a current Georgetown FNP student and I have had nothing but amazing support. The program is extremely rigorous, as it should be, and I have no complaints as far as level of support or quality of education. The cost is ridiculous, but I believe you get what you pay for. I am completely happy that I chose Georgetown. I start clinicals in September and they have already secured 3 of my 4 clinical sites and I live on the west coast.
