RN trying to get back in....

Hi there....I am a RN who took a break from nursing to raise my children...(11 years)....I have maintained my license, as well as my certification in Low Risk Neonatal Nursing....I even worked as an immunization nurse recently....I have read most of the items posted on this site regarding taking a refresher course...I was wondering if anyone had an experience of offering to work the orientation for free at the prospective hospital you were applying?...Or had other creative ways of getting your foot back in the door? I worked for 15 years in a hospital in the OB area...so, I would rather start back in an area I am comfortable in...so, a refresher to med/surg seems non-productive for me...

Thanks for any suggestions!
