Does anyone have any experience working as an RN in a nursing home? I am beginning to explore my options outside of the hospital setting... I am going to do a tour of the place and see what kind of patients I would be responsible for because I have no clue what life is like outside of high acuity step down floors. She said the ratio is 10-14 and nurses don't have to do med pass because they have techs and LPNs to do that. any advice is appreciated. thanks!
Recruiter said RNs do "treatments" whatever that means, assessments, and kind of oversee everything.

Nurses don't have to do med pass because they have techs and LPNs for that??? Wow. So what is a LPN?

Part of the original post might have been insulting to LPNs.
Anyway, take the statement about ratios with a grain of salt. 10-14 patients but you're relieved of the med pass- in a nursing home- seems too good to be true.
If you're interested, search this site for SNF ratios; there are a multitude of posts on that subject if you want a sampling of other people's experiences.

It’s not offensive it’s literally what the woman on the phone stated word for word. IF that lady has an issue with it she needs to reevaluate her own life and that’s her problem.
My reply was not to offend you. I understand that this is what you were told. I was merely trying to make a point that LPNs are nurses too, just different nurses than RNs. It isn't a competition between the two, but we must respect each other and work together. I wish you the best in your career, and again- I did not mean to offend.

What state do you work in? When I worked at a skilled nursing facility, "treatments" usually meant wound care. Since you said there is a ratio, I don't think this is a nurse supervisor role? I was a nurse supervisor and didn't have to do med pass, but I did all the IV medications and TPN for the whole facility (100 beds), and did the medication reconciliation and assessments for new admissions. Depending on what your role is, your job responsibility will vary. If you have any questions you should ask the hiring manager exactly what your job entails. And if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is ?
