Rn Refresher

Could anyone give me suggestions on which route I should take to retake my boards? I have been out of nursing for approximately 10 years. I never intended to be out so long, but I found myself widowed with three young children. My children are now almost grown and I have begun trying to get back into nursing that I so loved. The state of Ct requires the completion of a RN Refresher course and then retake the boards. I have completed the course which included time in a clinical setting. I just recieved the certificate of completion and now can move to scheduling a test date. There are courses online, Suzanne's course, and Kaplan's review course. Is there anyone out there that has been down this road and give me an opinion on which review may help me. I would love to hear any advice that you can share. Thank you!!

I also lost my spouse in 2004 in a car accident. I was also left with three young kids twins 5 and a 9 year old. I was a LPN that had just finished RN school. I had to take a refresher course here in Florida. I did Saunders because that is what our teacher of the course used. After every chapter you take the test and if you get 75% or greater then you move on. I also took the Loretta Manning review course didin't really help me because my content wasn't good. Kaplan really didn't help me either for the same reason. With Kaplan you can go on Eay and get some of there material.

My best suggestion is Saunders and the prioritization book. Also doing a hundred questions a day Nclex 3500, Questions from 4000, and some kind of alternate question book will help. I took my boards on the 18th of August and passed so you can too. I was away from Nursing for four years so you can do it. Prayer also helps.

Good Luck,

Thank you so much for your replies. Hotlando, I'm truely sorry to hear about your husband. I know how hard it is especially with younger kids. I give you credit for doing all this under these circumstances. The one thing that is a definete is the kids grow up so fast. They are just little for such a short time. My kids wer 2, 5, and 7 when my husband died. Now they are 17, 19, and 22 yrs old. Time flies and then they have their own lives. Feel free to email if you would like to talk. juliekerrmark @aol.com.
