RN REENTRY

Hi,

I'm in my mid 30's. I left nursing 12 years ago to raise my (6) kids. I was a RN on a busy cardiovascular surgical floor prior to leaving nursing. I've also done family practice Triage for a few months. Anyways does anyone have any advice on getting back into nursing part time? According to the rules of my state I have to take a re entry course of 120 theory hours and 40 clinical hours. I dont even know how to go about finding a clincal site. Has anyone returned to nursing after a 10 plus year absence? I feel like I'm in a weird spot bc I am not a new grad but I'm not considered a seasoned nurse either bc I've been out for over 10 years. I need advice! Also I would like to get a job in Labor and Delivery and eventually bc a lactation consultant Thanks!

Check with your local community college. Many of them offer refresher courses that cover the BON requirements, including clinical requirements.

A quick Google search about becoming a lactation consultant yields a lot of results, many of which also sound like they would meet requirements of the BON for your refresher training. Good luck!
