RN provisional

I am currently an LPN in Virginia and I am really considering the LPN to RN through Excelsior. What scares me is that when I do graduate and receive the provisional license, will I be able to find a job, or even volunteer work to receive my hours to fully get the RN license. Who has experienced this?

    I am not too sure about that program specifically, but I would start by calling the board of nursing and make sure they accept that program in VA. I would also talk with the head of the program and see if they have used facilities in your area for previous clinical experience and ask which facilities were used. If they can not give you an answer then that should be a huge red flag not to go but I would call your local teaching hospitals and speak with HR and see how you ccould fulfill those hours. I would also get the clinical criteria from the program to see where you would have to fulfill your clinical work at. Like which specialties and how many hours and what kind of education your preceptor needs to have. I would get all of this information and make sure your hours will be able to be fulfilled before you start that program so you dont waste your money

    You are smart to be concerned. As difficult as it can be to find a job as a new grad, this will make it even more difficult. I wouldn't recommend going this route unless you have an employer that you know will hire you with a provisional license. I graduated from Excelsior back in 2008, before this was a requirement, and I usually only recommend Excelsior if you truly don't have any other bridge options. Have you looked for a local program?
