? RN Practicing outside the scope of nursing????

Can an RN, not currently in his/her NP clinicals, conduct an office visit in a private practice setting and generate an insurance claim from that office visit, if the attending physician is not physically in the examination room?

Can a RN legally.....

Order diagnostic exams?

See established and new patients without a physician in the room or in the medical office?

Thanks

I wouldn't take to chance if you dont have the license to do it yet, otherwise you would practicing outside your scope of practice, and risk losing your license as far as I know.

I know of a doc (I was his pt) who had been repremanded by the medical board for allowing exactly what you describe to occur at his office. I don't know if the nurses got in trouble. I checked out the doc before I saw him to see if he had anything against him. He was practising in Ohio when his infractions occured.

If you have a question go to the State Bd site www.azbn.gov and look at their directory - try calling one of their consultants who are great to speak with and willing to give good advice. If you don't want to speak with anyone you can fill out a complaint form on the site. I believe that either a verbal or written complaint can be done anonymously.
