Hey all,
Wondering if anyone can offer any insight into the RN job interview process. Do they ask you pretty general questions? or are they specific and/or clinical questions? For example: what would you do if a patient comes in displaying the following symptoms..... etc. Something along those lines...you get the point, right.
Can anyone (especially new grads) share some experiences you've had at job interviews?
Thanks in advance!

Of course they are going to vary! I was asked to give example how I handled situations/problems in my old occupation. Give examples of teamwork. Where I see myself in 5 yrs time. Of course 1 doesn't want to say at another hospital, lol I was told by 1 of my former clinical professors that as a new grad you want to make sure they know your a team player and you like to teach, both of which you need as a RN. So Stressed that afew times during my interview! Dress for success, be polite, sit up straight, THINK before you speak, they are not looking for the fastest response, you not on jeopardy, lol and be confident in your self. Best of luck
Hey!
Thanks alot for your response! Your post eased my nerves and gave me some material to think about & how I would answer it. Thanksss

i have been interviewed 6 times by 6 different hospitals/employers within January-February.
here are the frequent questions/scenarios that I received:
-Explain a time when you went far and beyond your job description/duties, your character, or beyond the norm.
-Explain a time when you have shown leadership. Describe thoroughly!
-Explain a time when you have had a "difficult" customer, patient, co-worker and what did you do, how did you handle it?
-Explain a time when you had conflict with a former employee, conflict.. disagreements, etc. What did you do?
-Do you have a problem communicating with managers, co-workers, etc.
-Explain a time when you made a mistake, what did you do?
These questions were so frequent! I have answered these questions so many times that by my 6th interview I answered with no struggle, stress free, and it was just natural. This is the interview that I landed! Got the job offer and was just so happy!
I do advice you that be honest and genuine with the answer. If you really never had a scenario, tell the person interviewing you that you've never had a scenario like that. If you have something similar or along the lines than do explain. Just make sure that you emphasize that you are a great communicator and that you are not scared to ask questions! For the question about making a mistake. YEs I told them my mistake. I told them that I accidentaly gave the customer $100 instead of $10. I explained what I did after. It shows that you are honest and that you are not afraid to admit to your mistakes.
Good luck on your interview. Make sure you have patience and perseverance. It will pay off!!

On top of the questions you see here, my interview had a role play where I had to get an uncooperative patient to take her meds. As a nurse it's hard to remember the things you do on a daily basis.
Here are a few more nursing interview questions
Describe your experience with substance abuse treatment programs.
Our hospital serves a very diverse population. How have you prepared yourself to deal with patients from various backgrounds?
Suppose you learned that your fellow LPN was taking shortcuts and that a prescribed plan of care was not being followed for a patient. How would you handle this?

Good morning, I would ask if you can recommend some sites where you can apply for a CNA job, I got my license two months ago but before he had worked in the care of older people with health problems.
